What is it you do at Site9?
Mainly providing product direction and teaching people how to use ProtoShare. I also spend a lot of time testing ProtoShare and thinking about usability improvements.
How long have you been with Site9?
Since August, 2006.
What do you like most about your job?
Planning and specifying compelling new workflows in ProtoShare.
Tell us something most people wouldn’t guess upon first meeting you.
I spent the first few years after high school as a sheet metal mechanic (AKA tin knocker). That was a fantastic job!
Favorite food
My favorite foods are those I make myself. The process is always enjoyable, and the result is sometimes delicious. I suppose my favorite meal is pasta with gravy consisting of fresh, local tomatoes and chuck or brisket.
Favorite book
Usually the book I’m reading at the moment. I’m on a rare fiction kick these days and just finished My Abandonment by Peter Rock. It’s a fictionalized account of a true story about a father and daughter who lived undetected for several years in Portland’s Forest Park. Now I’m reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog, which I’m thoroughly enjoying. Soon enough I’ll get back to my usual collapsitarian non-fiction.
Favorite movie
I enjoy watching anything by Antonioni, Godard, or Lumet. But, my all-time favorite movie is The Godfather. It’s a perfect movie and eminently quotable. “I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.” Enough said!
Words to live by
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead
When I’m not working, I’m likely… Volunteering at KBOO Community Radio, 90.7 FM in Portland, OR. I co-produce a show called Digital Divide, which airs the second Friday each month. Recently, I interviewed physicist Brian Greene, which was very exciting.
Other hobbies
Hiking, traveling, reading, cooking, and working on many half-finished and half-baked personal projects.
Best accomplishment in life so far
Several contributions to the scientific record via published papers in scholarly journals.
Share with us an item on your Bucket List
Taking a year to travel around the world and then writing about it.
What do you like most about ProtoShare?
I like the ability to build prototypes of any fidelity. Creating low- or medium-fidelity prototypes is really easy using basic ProtoShare functionality. But, if you want to create high-fidelity prototypes, either functionally or visually, ProtoShare provides features such as the Advanced HTML component and the global style sheet. I’ve built several complex, visually rich prototypes for Professional Services customers and the results not only met the customers’ needs, but were also really beautiful. It’s amazing what you can do with a little HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
